Elegant birds laying dark reddish-brown eggs with a pleasing shine.
These are the birds responsible for the eggs awarded at this year’s Royal Canberra Poultry Show in June.
They garnered a first place alongside our Cream Legbar and olive eggs in the Mixed egg category, and a second place for the 3 large brown eggs category.

Welsummers are known for their striking appearance, with rich reddish-brown plumage adorned with black and gold markings. They are excellent egg layers, producing large, brown eggs. They have a friendly temperament and adapt well to various environments, making them popular choices for backyard flocks.
Offspring from this group will hatch predominantly silver with minimal chance of gold split.
Not a breed, but a beautiful cross between a dark layer and a blue layer. The F1 olive eggers lay sublime eggs on a spectrum ranging from eucalypt and avocado to sage grey, olive, mushroom and khaki.
Eggshells are often finished with blooms and speckling.
Each bird looks distinctly different, making them ideal as kids’ pets.

Plymouth rock are an excellent all rounder breed- friendly, gentle and sweet, suitable for families with small children and other animals. As they aren’t great flyers, they are also suitable for backyards and enclosed runs. Plymouth Rock are prolific layers, laying 200+ large brown egg per year, often through winter when other breeds stop laying.
